The Community-Driven Sportswear Platform

Local Threads was founded in 2023 in response to the monopolistic control of big business houses and brands over the sportswear market in Bangalore, India. Recognizing the fact that this oligopoly was neither efficient nor beneficial for society, I felt a strong need to create a platform that would empower local businesses. Local Threads emerged as a solution to enable these local businesses to thrive by providing a marketplace for them to showcase and sell their products. The platform specifically caters to sports clubs and communities, streamlining the process for them to order customized jerseys and other sportswear from local sources.

In addition to supporting local entrepreneurship, Local Threads has also committed to sustainability. The involvement in eco-friendly initiatives through school-level activities highlighted the severe environmental impact of the sportswear industry, particularly the waste generated from discarded active wear. In response, Local Threads introduced a unique incentive: customers receive a discount on their purchases when they exchange used t-shirts for new ones, thereby reducing landfill waste and promoting conscious consumption.
